Yet, I often observe how MS Word is misused to do simple tasks less efficiently than could be done with other Mac apps. Here are the five most frequent instances when MS Word can easily be replaced to make academic work better, faster and more pleasant. • Note-taking. Is far superior for making notes faster to take, easier to find, and more universally available (e.g. Macademic using such apps as,. • Early stages of academic writing. If you want your text to look professional, snappy and elegant use for final formatting. An ancient philosopher said ‘ The difference between Pages and Word in Pages it is very diffivult to make a document look ugly whereas in MS Word it is very difficult to make a document look pretty.’ So most of my memos, briefings, case-studies, and reports are written in and then transferred to Pages for final formatting. Of course you should not email Pages files – convert them to PDFs. How to make PDFs with a lighting-fast ⌘-P-P keyboard shortcut. Check also Macademic entry on. • Exchanging textual information. I often receive emails starting as follows: “ Please find enclosed my inputs/thoughts/an interesting idea”. Attached are MS Word documents with 2–3 paragraphs of unformatted text.. The best alternative is again plain text inserted at the end of your email. • Disseminating and storing reference documents. Another type of emails I receive start like this: “ Please find attached my recent paper on XXX for your files”. Once again, the attachment is a “.doc(x)” file. I find it frustrating. What if I do not have this version of Word or a particular font or something else prevents my computer from displaying the file properly? What if I want to import the file in a pdf-management software such as? What if in 10-years time MS Word won’t be used any longer? For circulating and storing final papers and documents it is always best to use the open document-exchange maintained by the International Organization for Standardization. Even if your document was prepared in Word c can be done in seconds. I couldn’t agree more with you. Not only have I tried to avoid MS word since I changed to Mac, but I even feel more creative or inspired to write. Writing in Byword or even in simple text lets one concentrate on the writing. I don’t know if it’s just me, but MS Word appears to have been changing for the worse, or at least in functionality and the counterintuitive menus. And if you want to continue to throw things at MS Word, the current flashback trojan takes advantage of an exploit in it to spread. It works by importing an audio file, as well as writing the text for the audio and placing it accordingly. The program then uses a built-in dictionary to select the appropriate mouth for the spoken text. Modifications and dictionaries are available on the forum. Originally created as a tool for LostMarble's own Moho editor, the tool is being adopted by users and developers of several open source animation products (including and ) to add lip-sync features not available in the base software package. References [ ]. Papagayo is a lip-syncing program designed to help you line up phonemes (mouth shapes) with the actual recorded sound of actors speaking. Papagayo makes it easy to lip sync animated characters by making the process very simple. ![]() Could have a C4D importer written in fairly simple order, and it's becoming a very widely-used lip-sync solution for cost-sensitive users. Essentially all that's needed is a script to pull mouth morph shapes from a library (by name) based on Papagayo's output for a given track. Programming-wise it doesn't seem that difficult a task, but I've not played much with C4D morphs (nor have any available free time), or I'd just do it myself. One thing to note is that since there aren't other options, an enterprising developer who put together a nice Papagayo import package for C4D could potentially make a little money doing so. Hi, i find this topic interesting, so i cooked up a node plugin that will read files exported from papagayo, and output the phenome for a given frame, both as String and in the form of an index. See this screenshot: Besidse the name of the text-file, there's only one parameter at the moment: 'fill gaps'. If disabled, the node will only output a phenome only at the exact frame thats written in the text-file. If enabled, the node will output each phenome until the next phenome occurs (kinda like step interpolation i'd say). To use it with your projects you would have to connect the output port of the node to your morph-shape setup. You can download the plugin here (win only at the moment, will compile for mac if there is demand): ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm open for suggestions as for how to improve it, let me know what you guys think! Cheers, Daniel. Hi, i updated the downloads above, mac version is included now. Also i updated the setup in the example.c4d, here is how the setup works: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Xpresso node reads the papagayo data and outputs which phenome should be used for a given frame. This information is fed into a coffee node that just decides which phenome-mouth texture to use, given the output from the plugin node. And thats it actually;-) I didnt test it very much, but you should be able to load any other papagayo exported data, and the mouth in the example scene should automatically adjust. Only thing you have to do by hand is to exchange the wave in the sound track in the timeline, for editor playback. Greets, Daniel. ![]() I figured there was probably a way to do something similar to be able to record both ends of a Skype conversation.
